Step-by-Step Guide to Extend Windows Server Evaluation Period

Windows Server provides a trial evaluation period of 180 days, which can be extended up to six times, allowing you to use the software for a total of three years. Follow the steps below to extend your evaluation period:

Steps to Extend the Evaluation Period

  1. Check the Remaining Time

    • Look at the bottom right corner of your desktop to see the countdown of the remaining evaluation days.
    • Alternatively, open PowerShell and run the following command to check your current license details:
      slmgr -dlv
This command will display the remaining time, license status, and the number of rearm attempts left.
  2. Rearm the Evaluation Period

    • Open PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command:
      slmgr -rearm
This command resets the evaluation period.
  3. Restart Your Computer

    • After running the slmgr -rearm command, restart your computer to apply the changes.
  4. Verify the Updated Settings

    • Once your computer restarts, open PowerShell again and run:
      slmgr -dlv
This will confirm that the evaluation period has been extended.

Important Notes

  • Each rearm extends the evaluation period by 180 days.
  • You can rearm up to six times, allowing you to use Windows Server for a total of three years (180 days × 6 = 1080 days).
  • Always keep track of the remaining rearm attempts to avoid interruptions in your server usage.

Why Extend the Evaluation Period?

Extending the evaluation period is a cost-effective way to test Windows Server features before committing to a full license. It’s especially useful for developers, IT professionals, or businesses evaluating the platform.
